Lady Raider Coaching Spotlight

Coach Sharon Springer

Coach Springer graduated from Hempstead High School in 1973, there, she played and lettered in basketball, tennis, and track and field, where she went to state in the track relays and won second place. From high school, she went to Texas Woman’s University and played basketball and tennis, and participated in softball as a team manager. From college, Coach Springer started teaching in the Carrollton school district for 3 years and then landed a teaching and coaching job here at Parkhill, where she has been teaching for the past 36 years.

Coach Cara Ham

After growing up in WV, graduating from Rowlett High in 2000, attending college in Ohio and living in Florida for six years, I am so glad to again call the Dallas area home. I graduated from Ohio University in 2004 with a BS in Journalism & Mass Communication. I hold a Texas teaching certificate in Reading and Language Arts (4-8) and Speech (7-12). My husband teaches at Lake Highlands High School, and both my son and daughter are Bowie Mustangs, so our family is on board with what Richardson is doing. I enjoy the privilege of teaching Professional Communication and AVID as my day job: helping students discover their voices, grow as communicators, work to their fullest potential and truly come into their own as students. The tradition of excellence in academics carries over into athletics, and our teams are well known for their sportsmanship.

I get the fantastic honor of coaching our talented, competitive and spirited 7th grade A team in volleyball. So far it’s been a season full of building camaraderie, boosting confidence, and solidifying skills. This is a really great crew, and I look forward to what the rest of the season holds. I also coach the 8th grade girls’ basketball team, and we are looking forward to a season of personal growth, teamwork, progress, and excellent competition.

Coach Gina Bennett

I was born and raised in sunny Southern California. I grew up in Los Angeles and decided my senior year of High School that I wanted to experience life away from home. I made the decision to venture out of my comfort zone and attend college at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Soon after graduating my husband and I moved to Dallas and have been living here for the past 12 years. We have two daughters who are three and four years old. I am extremely family oriented and enjoy spending as much quality time with my family as I possibly can.

This is my seventh year as a teacher, all of which have been in Richardson ISD. I have taught 7th and 8th grade Reading as well as Language Arts. I have a passion for helping students who start out as struggling readers and transform them into students who develop a love for reading.

Coach Kathrine Skaggs

I grew up in the small town of Decatur, TX. After graduating from Decatur High in 2008 I went to MSU for two years and finished my Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology degree at UNT in Denton. I received my Health teaching certificate while doing a year of Post-Bac Education studies.

Health and fitness have always been a passion of mine and there is no better way to use my passion than to teach. I feel very blessed and honored to be able to call Parkhill my home for the past 4 years. Keeping the standards of education and athleticism high is what I strive for.

I have the opportunity to coach the 8th grade B volleyball team and the 7th grade basketball team. The drive, commitment, and dedication I see on and off the court make me proud to be these young ladies’ coach!

Coach Teresita Gill

I was born and raised in Oakland, CA, where I grew up with my twin brother. I stayed in California until I was 16 years old, and then I moved to Alabama to finish high school and attend college. I moved to Texas about a year ago to start my career in teaching. In my spare time I enjoy playing sports as well as drawing and hiking with my dogs.

I graduated high school with an advanced diploma from W.P Davidson High School in Mobile, AL. I stayed in Alabama to further my career in education at The University of Alabama. Where I got my B.S in Education with a concentration in Physical Education. I was able to graduate in December 2015 with a GPA of 3.1. I plan to further my career in education in getting my masters in Sport Management soon.

I started playing organized basketball when I was in the 3rd grade. I started off playing in a church league all the way to trying-out for my university when I was a freshman. Basketball has had a big impact on my life and for what I do now. I officiate high school basketball games on the side as well as starting to coach at Parkhill. My basketball coaching career started off as an assistant basketball coach for my internship team in Buhl, AL. This year I will be coaching 7th grade volleyball as well as 7th grade basketball.

Claudia Martinez

I was born and raised in College Station, TX and attended Texas A&M University. During my last semester at A&M, I made the move to Dallas to complete student teaching at Parkhill Junior High. After graduating with my bachelors in interdisciplinary studies, I made the move to the big city of Dallas official to pursue my career in teaching. Luckily I was in a familiar place after being hired on at Parkhill as a language arts teacher the following year. I have been fortunate enough to teach all levels of both grades at Parkhill as well. I am beginning my third year at Parkhill Junior High, and I feel lucky to be a part of such an amazing school.

I have a passion for working with kids, and I truly want to help make their schooling experience as pleasant as possible. I've had the privilege of working with three groups of 8th grade Cheerleaders during my time at Parkhill. Each year we focus on teamwork, showing spirit, and being leaders of our school. I am looking forward to seeing this current group of cheerleaders grow. It has been wonderful to see all of the girls I have sponsored move on and pursue extracurricular activities such as cheer or dance in high school.
